Rethinking Hair Dryers
In this project, we took up the challenge of developing a new hair dryer, by applying the HSLU Double Diamond design process model (discover, define, develop deliver).
The process included:
-
Different research methods: Competitor analysis, in-depth interviews with professional hairdressers and private hair dryer users (home use), product autopsy.
-
Problem identification and definition of product requirements.
-
Solution ideation: moodboards, sketching, prototyping.
-
Concept selection and development: decision on product language, prototyping.
The project gave us the opportunity to learn about different functions and technologies used in hair dryers, ergonomics, materials and production methods. We experienced the relationship between a design agency and a client, in addition to the need to be dynamic and open for changes and new suggestions.
This project is a result of productive and enriching teamwork, and was preformed as a final project for the course Product Design.
